Old Resident Called Home
Jacob Bunner Aged 94 Years Answers the Final Summons
Jacob Bunner, aged 94 years, and a life ling resident of Marion county, died this morning at his home on Bunner's Ridge after an illness from diseases incident to old age. He was a son of the late Amos and Sarah Fink Bunner and was born in Marion county. He was united in marriage with Miss Lavarna (Lovina) Carpenter whose death occurred two years ago. There were no children born to this union. A niece and nephew of Mr and Mrs Bunner had resided with them since childhood, Jacob Carpenter, the nephew, still residing on the home place. Mrs Gus Weaver. the niece, is now a resident of the state of Indiana. Mr Bunner was one of the best known residents of the county and until advanced age incapacitated him from active work was an important member of the community in which he resided. He was a member of the M E denomination and had led a constant Christian life. Funeral services will be held on Friday at noon and interment will be made in Bunner's Ridge cemetery. Undertaker Jenkins in charge. Based on Jacob's death record in Marion County, West Virginia, the old farmer died on Bunner's Ridge at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 1 day. His marker in the cemetery on Bunner's Ridge says he was born May 15 1819. While the math doesn't quite work, I am more inclined to believe the May 15th date on his stone. It was set following the death of Jacob's wife, Lovina, in 1911. Jacob's birth date was cut but no one ever updated it following his death.
